Other People's Property: Progress!

If you’ve been following along, you know the very long and painful process I’ve had to go through to get the nuisance property behind us taken care of.

The short version is the lot behind us has like 4 foot tall grass and I’ve been complaining to the city via their 3-1-1 number since March of 2011, contacted our City Council Member Cynthia Hedge-Morrell twice, and the head of the Code Enforcement Department. We also got rats in our house because of the yard and a possum in our yard as a result of both things.

Anyway, today I got an email update (automated because I’m “watching” the address of the property on the NOLA blight website, so, no human has told me anything yet). The property was inspected and they found two violations! The grass is too high, and they’re harboring rodents.

I got tears of joy when I read this — I’m not even joking. This obviously isn’t over yet, but this is the first time in the two years I’ve been fighting this that something actually happened. This is a huge step forward.

I’m still not happy with the system or the process as it shouldn’t have taken all this extra work. But, things are moving.
